Indoor/Outdoor Use and Maintenance

Indoor Maintenance:

  • No maintenance is required for indoor use.
  • All woods may cleaned by using furniture polish or a damp cloth.

If Used Outdoors Under Cover (under a roofed area):

  • If you are planning to use La Lune Seating or Tables under a covered or roofed-in area which is protected from the weather, you may select any of the available finishes and fabrics shown with each item.
  • If seating is specified for Outdoor Under Cover, the cushions will be made with our outdoor fabric and fill, and the deck below the seat cushion will be wood spindles.
  • All outdoor seating will be made with removable loose seat and back cushions rather than tight upholstered seats and backs.
  • If tables are specified for Outdoor Under Cover the tops will be made using 1 ½” thick cedar plank tops with 1/8” gaps between the planks.
  • A few items in the seating and table collection are not recommended for outdoor use, as indicated on the Overview Tab for those items.

Please contact us with any questions regarding outdoor use and maintenance.

If Used Completely Outdoors (without a roof overhead):

  • If you are planning to use La Lune Seating or Tables Completely Outdoors without any protection you may select any of our fabrics but only the peeled cedar finishes are recommended.
  • The finishes with the bark on are not recommended to be used Completely Outdoors.
  • If seating is specified for Completely Outdoors, the cushions will be made with our outdoor fabric and fill, and the deck below the seat cushion will be wood spindles.
  • All outdoor seating will be made with removable loose seat and back cushions rather than tight upholstered seats and backs.
  • Checking and cracking may occur in cedar.  This is a natural characteristic of cedar wood and will not affect the structural integrity of the furniture.
  • If tables are specified for Completely Outdoors the tops will be made using 1 ½” thick cedar plank tops with 1/8” gaps between the planks.

Please contact us with any questions regarding outdoor use and maintenance.

Outdoor Care Instructions for Wood:

When used outdoors, the furniture should be resealed at least once per year with a clear exterior wood varnish and should be stored indoors during the winter months, if possible.  We also recommend using furniture covers which are available from La Lune or from other companies.  We will include maintenance instructions with each order and you may also contact us to request care and maintenance instructions for your order or finish.

La Lune Fabrics Care and Cleaning:

GENERAL OR LIGHT CLEANING:

  • Brush off any loose dirt.
  • Prepare a cleaning solution of 2 ounces (1/4 cup) mild detergent, such as Woolite or Dawn dishwashing liquid, per gallon of lukewarm water.
  • Use a sponge or a soft bristle brush to clean.
  • Allow cleaning solution to soak into fabric.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent residue.
  • Allow fabric to air dry.

SPOT CLEANING:

  • Apply a light mist of mild detergent and water using a spray bottle.
  • Work the solution into the stain by lightly scrubbing the area with a sponge or very soft bristle brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent residue.
  • Blot excess moisture with a clean, soft towel or sponge.
  • Wet-vacuum or blot excess water.
  • Air dry, repeat steps 3 and 4 until all detergent residue is removed.

HEAVY CLEANING FOR STUBBORN STAINS AND MILDEW:

La Lune Collection fabrics do not promote mildew growth; however, mildew may grow outdoors on dirt and other foreign substances that are not removed from the fabric. To clean mildew or other stubborn stains:

  • Prepare a solution of 8 ounces (1 cup) of bleach and 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of mild detergent per gallon of clean water.
  • Spray on entire area and allow to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.
  • Remove stain with a sponge, clean towel or very soft bristle brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all detergent residue.
  • Allow fabric to air dry.
  • If stain and/or mildew are severe, bleach quantities may be increased.
